Wilcox Co. Sheriff's Deputy Arrested on Drug Charges
By Alabama News Network

Federal authorities say a Wilcox County sheriff's deputy has been charged with trying to transport and distribute drugs.

U.S. Attorney's officials say 45-year-old Greg Barge was arrested Wednesday and is accused of transporting what he thought was cocaine between Montgomery and Camden.

A complaint filed in federal court accuses Barge of being paid $800 in April and $1,200 in May to transport the fake drugs. Officials say Barge transported the powder in a sheriff's office vehicle while he was in full uniform.

Officials say Barge was investigated by the FBI, the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board and the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

Barge faces a minimum of five years in prison. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
