From the West Alabama Newsroom-- The Annual Battle of Selma Civil War Re-enactment is in full swing in Selma. This year's event commemorates the 149th anniversary of the historic battle.

Hundreds of school children come from around the state to attend the event and take part in the Living History School Day tours.

Students toured ten different stations where they learned about the Civil War -- and what was like to live in the 1800's.

Every student who attended the tour got a wrist band for free admission into the two reenactment battles this weekend.

"I think its cool and a great experience and I'm just glad that I travelled here on this field trip," said Calera Intermediate School fourth grader Anya Long.

The Battle of Selma runs through Sunday.
