By George McDonald

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  An Alabama man is commemorating the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act -- by riding a bike from Marion to Montgomery -- pulling a casket.

Jeffery Jones of the Save Section Five Coalition says its all to raise awareness about voting rights.

Jones says he's symbolically taking the body of Jimmie Lee Jackson to the state capital to commemorate the 48th  anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act. Jackson's death in 1965 helped spark the Voting Rights Movement.

"We no longer have the key provisions of the act to protect us and this how we have been able to see the progress, the election of Barack Obama, the various office holders throughout the state that we have that looks like me."

Activities to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the Voting Rights Act are planned throughout the south.
