Crime Rate in Selma Drops in 2012
By George McDonald

From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--  New numbers show crime was down significantly in Selma last year compared to the year before.

Police Chief William Riley says crime was down a whopping 21-percent according to data from the annual crime analysis report.

He says the report shows 420 fewer crimes than the year before and a decrease in the number of crimes in seven out of the ten crime categories.

"I feel the city is safer than what it was a year ago and that's the whole goal, that is the whole goal, each year to do as best as you possibly can in keeping the city safe," said Riley.

He said the reduced numbers also reflect the department's aggressive approach to solving crimes.
