From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- School officials say they are looking into consolidating the two schools at one location-- but it's not a done deal yet. The consolidation plan under consideration would close Five Points Elementary School, put all K thru 5 students at Salem Elementary and move 6th graders on to Keith High School. School officials say the move would save the system hundreds of thousands of dollars. Orrville resident Charles Flennory says closing the school would be a big blow to the community. "I definitely understand the finances and everybody is really feeling it right now, so there's a lot of schools post office, government job, being closed down right now, like I say I would really hate to see Five Points go, me and a lot of other people would, let's just hope and pray that they don't." School officials say declining student enrollment and a tight budget are major factors in the final decision. The next school board meeting is May 21st.
