From the West Alabama Newsroom--   The Demopolis Police Department has a new crime fighting tool patrolling the streets of the city.

A police car has now been outfitted with new license plate reader technology. Police Chief Tommie Reese says the system alerts the officer to any information from the crime database -- associated with that license plate.

"It's able to tell the officer inside the car, the car may have warrants on it or stolen," he said.

Reese says he plans to outfit two more vehicles with the technology. He says each system carries a price tag of about $20,000 dollars.
