Dixie Majors Baseball Tournament Provides Big Boost in Selma

From the West Alabama Newsroom--  The 2013 Dixie Majors State Baseball Tournament is underway at Bloch Park in Selma. City officials say the event provides a huge economic boost to the city.

The tournament brings baseball teams and fans from all over the state – to the city of Selma for nearly a week.

The crack of a bat hitting a baseball is one of the most recognizable sounds of summer. Its also the sound of the city of Selma getting an economic boost – from America's pasttime. It's the third year in row that the city of Selma has hosted the Dixie Majors.

“We're a baseball city, enjoy hosting the tournament and we enjoy having the out of town people come and enjoy our historic city of Selma,” said Selma Parks and Recreation Director Elton Reece.

It's the third year in row that the city of Selma has hosted the Dixie Majors.

The championship game is Monday. The winner moves on to the Dixie Majors World Series – starting July 26th in North Charleston, South Carolina.
