Dallas Co. Man Indicted in Hale Co.

A Dallas County man is indicted on sixteen counts of felony theft in Hale County.

Authorities say 37 year old Darrell Lee McGuire of Safford was a deputy with the Hale County Sheriff's Office when the alleged thefts took place.

Hale County District Attorney Michael Jackson says the former deputy is suspected of taking narcotics, guns and drug-buy money in cases he worked from 2008 up to 2012. Jackson says McGuire will be arraigned in Circuit Court within the next few months-- then a trail date will be set.

"This just shows nobody is above the law," said Jackson. "When Sheriff Ellis over in Hale County found out about some discrepancies with the drug evidence, he moved on it. He got ABI involved they did an investigation and they found out that Darrell McGuire wasn't properly receipting the evidence or taking it to the Department of Forensic Science, so basically the drug evidence was disappearing."

Jackson says McGuire had been a law enforcement officer for more than ten years-- and had also worked as a police officer in Uniontown and Pine Hill.
