A letter being circulated around Lowndes Co. is suggesting some candidates in Tuesday’s runoff election in Lowndes County-- have the political backing-- and were hand-picked by the Ku Klux Klan. The N-word is used throughout the letter which also refered to black people as monkeys. The letter portrays local activist Barbara Evans as a Klan leader— and tells voters who to vote for to strike a blow for white supremacy. Commission Chairman Charlie King, Jr. was caught by surveillance cameras putting the letters out at a convenience store. “It made me sick in my stomach, it made me sick in my heart because I know Lowndes County is better than this,” said Evans. “My character is not that way, I don’t stoop that low to win an election,” said King. King denies writing the letter—and says he only passed it out to make people aware that it was going on. Both Evans and King are calling for a full-scale investigation of the incident.
