From the West Alabama Newsroom-- A Selma company is awarded a $14.9 million dollar contract to produce combat uniforms for the U.S. Marine Corp.
Officials at American Apparel say the contract is for the second year of a five year deal that the company was awarded last year.
They say the award will mean added job security for the employees at their Selma plant even though military spending and the demand for uniforms continue to decline.
Chuck Lambert is the Chief Operating Officer at American Apparel. "It's sort of bitter sweet," said Lambert.
"When you get one for Selma, but at the same time you've got facilities in Oneonta and Opp that you've had to close due to these lesser requirements."
American Apparel is one of the largest employers in the Selma and Dallas County area.
