From the West Alabama Newsroom--  Two workforce development projects breathe new life into the old New Era cap company building in Demopolis.

Mayor Mike Grayson says Shelton State Community College will offer truck driver training classes in part of the building. He says the building will also house a welding program by the University of West Alabama.

Grayson says the programs will help the development of a highly trained workforce in the city.

"What it's designed to do is helped the kids in high school who are not necessarily college bound, it gives them an option, also those people that are, already have a job but they feel like they could do better," he said.

Grayson says a well-trained workforce is an important part of industrial recruitment for any city.
