From the West Alabama Newsroom--  People in Dallas County are bracing for the effects of the new gun law.

The new law is causing some concerns for some people and made for a busy first day for the new law at the sheriff's office.

A steady flow of gun owners made their way to the courthouse Thursday to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

Dallas County resident Kathy Jo Carstarphen was one of them.

"I hope I never use it on a person, I feel like they're very deadly and that we're not taught strongly enough about how powerful and how detrimental guns can be if not used in a proper way," said Carstarphen.

Some residents are also worried that the combination of the Open-Carry aspect of the new law and the state's Stand-Your-Ground law -- could result in an increase of gun violence in the area.
