New Program Aims to HEAL Assault and Harassment in SelmaFrom the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- Selma Police and City Court unveil a new program designed to help try and reduce the number of harassment and assault cases in the city. The new H.E.A.L. program is designed to help break a pattern of violence and threats-- by teaching people how to deal with anger and conflict. The program features conflict resolution and anger management training-- and a one year monitoring and probationary period. Selma Police Chief William Riley says officers responded to nearly three thousand incidents of assault and harassment in the city last year. "Our goal is to break the cycle of individuals of causing assaults and harrassment and find out what's the cause and effect of why they're doing what they're doing," he said. Riley says charges against anyone who successfully completes the program will be dismissed. |
