From the West Alabama Newsroom--  A man is behind bars after police say he stole a vehicle -- and led them on a high-speed chase.

Police say 44 year old Jimmy Brown of Selma drove the stolen pick-up home and ran inside. Police surrounded the house with guns drawn -- blocked off part of the street -- and brought in a canine unit.

They say Brown gave up after about a forty minute stand-off -- just as a police dog was about to be sent into the house.

"Before the dog could enter the residence, once his partner, the dog's handler gave two warnings, on the second warning the fleeing suspect came to the front door and officers took him down from there," said Lt. Curtis Muhannad.

Muhannad says Brown is facing multiple charges -- including theft  -- attempting to elude -- assault -- and criminal mischief. He says Brown was already on federal probation and more charges could be possible.
