Thomas Sex Abuse Trial in the Hands of Wilcox Co. Jury

From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom--  The sex abuse case of a former state lawmaker and Wilcox central high school principal is in the hands of a jury.

James Thomas is accused of kissing a 17 year old student and forcing her to touch him.

The former student testified that the alleged sexual abuse happened in November of 20-10.

The jury made up of mostly women began deliberating at around 2:30 Thursday afternoon but were unable to reach a verdict by 5 o'clock.

"Deliberations can take hours, they can take minutes, they can take days. You just never know what's going to happen with a jury, this is the process that we have and we're letting the process take it's course,"said Assistant District Attorney Vernetta Perkins.

The jury was sent home for the night by Circuit Judge Jack Meigs. They will resume deliberations Friday morning at nine.
