From the CBS 8 West Alabama Newsroom-- Electronic eyes are going up in more and more homes and businesses as the use of video is being viewed as an effective crime fighting tool. Selma Police Chief William Riley says video technology is already helping police catch red light runners and identify suspected criminals. He says now a growing number of home owners are starting to use video to protect their property. "We encourage people to use technology, technology is the wave of the future, all across this country we're solving more crimes through technology, it's working smarter, not harder," said Riley. A plan to put cameras at dozens of public places around the city is under consideration by the city in an effort to deter crime.
