Sources: Auburn Will Name Gus Malzahn as Head Football Coach
By Glenn Halbrooks

According to several sources, including CBS Sports, Auburn University is preparing to name Gus Malzahn as its next head football coach.

CBS 8 News was the first Montgomery TV station on the air and online with the news this afternoon.

Malzahn is the current head coach at Arkansas State and is a former offensive coordinator with Auburn, who served under then-head coach Gene Chizik during Auburn's 2010 national championship season.

Malzahn was 9-3 in his single season at Arkansas State, winning the Sun Belt title.

Malzahn was hired in 2009 at Auburn. In his first year took the Tigers from 104th to 16th in the nation in total offense. His 2010 offense ranked 7th, which helped quarterback Cam Newton win the Heisman Trophy winner, and was the driving force behind Auburn's first national championship since 1957.

Before coming to Auburn, Malzahn had enjoyed successful stints as offensive coordinator at Tulsa and Arkansas, the former his first opportunity to display the up-tempo no-huddle offense that had made his name at Arkansas's Springdale High School.
