Spain wins women's water polo Olympic qualifier
TRIESTE, Italy (AP) — Spain was among four teams to secure a spot in the women's water polo competition at the London Olympics after winning a qualifying tournament on Sunday.
Spain beat Italy 9-5 in the final of the qualifying event in Trieste, Italy.
Italy — which beat defending Olympic champion Netherlands in the quarterfinals — also grabbed an Olympic spot along with Hungary and Russia.
Olympic host Britain had already been joined by Australia, China and the United States in the eight-team lineup for the London tournament.
Governing body FINA says it will make the women's draw on May 5 in London, during the Olympic test event.
