Update on the latest in sports:NBA PLAYOFFS-FINAL SCORES Sixers, Celtics and Lakers in control...Knicks live to play another day UNDATED (AP) __ The No. 1 seed in the NBA's Eastern Conference playoffs is heading home from Philadelphia on the brink of elimination. Spencer Hawes had 22 points and Jrue Holiday contributed 20 to the 76ers 89-82 victory that puts the banged-up Bulls in a 3-1 hole in the best-of-seven series. Chicago played without star guard Derrick Rose, who suffered a season-ending knee injury late in Game 1, and forward Joakim Noah (JOH'-keem NOH'-ah), who sprained an ankle late in Game 3 and is listed as day to day. The Bulls have lost three in a row headed into Game 5 on Tuesday in the Windy City. The Sixers are looking to become just the fifth No. 8 seed to oust a top seed in the opening round. Memphis did it to San Antonio last year. In other first-round NBA playoff action: —Paul Pierce scored 24 points in 18 minutes and the Boston Celtics opened a 37-point third-quarter lead before coasting to a 101-79 victory over the Atlanta Hawks to take a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. Rajon Rondo (RAH'-zhahn RAHN'-doh) had a double-double with 20 points and 16 assists. The Celtics can finish off the Hawks in Atlanta on Tuesday. __The L.A. Lakers took a 3-1 series lead over Denver with a 92-88 win over the Nuggets. Kobe Bryant led the way with 22 on just 10 of 25 shooting. Steve Blake scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth quarter. The Lakers can put away the Nuggets with a win at home in Game 5 on Tuesday. — Amare Stoudemire (ah-MAR'-ay STOW'-duh-my-ur) returned to the Knicks lineup today after missing Game 3 against Miami with a cut hand and helped New York stave off elimination with a 89-87 victory over the Heat. The All Star forward contributed 20 points while teammate Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 41. The win snaps the Knicks' NBA-record 13-game postseason losing streak. They'll play Game 5 of the best-of-seven series in Miami on Wednesday night. NHL PLAYOFFS-FINAL SCORES Kings remain on a roll...Devils take 3-1 lead UNDATED (AP) — After eliminating top-seeded Vancouver from the Western Conference playoffs in five games, the Kings have swept St., Louis in the second round. Dustin Brown scored two goals and Jonathan Quick made 23 saves in a 3-1 Game 4 victory over St. Louis that helped eighth-seeded Los Angeles move into the Western Conference finals. In the other playoff series Sunday night, the New Jersey Devils have grabbed a 3-1 lead over the Flyers in their Eastern Conference semifinal with a 4-2 win, their third straight victory over Philadelphia. The Devils spotted Philly an early 2-0 lead, then stormed back with four unanswered goals. Dainius Zubrus (DAYN'-ee-uhs ZOO'-bruhs) scored twice. Petr Sykora and Marek Zidlicky (zihd-LIHK'-ee) also scored for the Devils, who can advance to their first conference final since 2003 with a win in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. New Jersey has never lost a playoff series after taking a 3-1 lead. MLB-FINAL SCORES Finally, Pujols goes deep...Going long at Fenway...Nats lose game and Werth UNDATED (AP) — Albert Pujols finally hit a home run for the Los Angeles Angels, ending the longest power drought of his career Sunday in a 4-3 win over the Toronto Blue Jays. Pujols connected in the fifth inning for his first AL homer and the 446th overall. The three-time NL MVP had gone 33 games and 139 at-bats dating to last year without a home run in the regular season. He had a three-homer game for the champion St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series and hit seven home runs in spring training. Also in the American League play: __There was a wild one at Fenway Park that went 17 innings with the Baltimore Orioles outlasting Boston 9-6. First baseman Chris Davis struck out five times, grounded into a double play and then tossed two scoreless innings of relief after Baltimore ran out of pitchers for the win. Adam Jones hit a three-run homer in the top of the 17th to break the tie. —The Cleveland Indians handed Rangers rookie Yu Darvish his first major league loss after a 4-0 start. The Indians beat the Rangers 4-2. Asdrubal Cabrera (ahs-DROO'-buhl kah-BREHR'-uh) hit a two-run double and Jason Kipnis belted a solo home run off the 25-year-old right-hander. Darvish starred in Japan before Texas committed over $100 million to lure him to the U.S. in the offseason. — Rookie slugger Jesus Montero lined a two-run double in the first inning to get Seattle on the board, Mike Carp added his first homer of the season and the Mariners cruised to a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Twins. — Alex Rodriguez belted his eighth career grand slam to pace the Yankees in a 10-4 romp over the Royals. Robinson Cano (kuh-NOH') added a three run blast and Nick Swisher homered in his return to the lineup as New York gained a split of the four-game series in Kansas City. — Former Tiger Brandon Inge (inj) hit his first home run for Oakland and collected four RBI's in the Athletics' 9-5 victory over Tampa Bay. Detroit released the veteran infielder April 26 after 11 seasons in the Motor City. The A's took two of three at Tropicana Field to hand the Rays their first series loss since Boston took three of four in mid-April. Tampa Bay dropped its second straight, falling to 13-3 at home, and failed again to become the first major league team to reach 20 wins. — Prince Fielder, Austin Jackson and Andy Dirks homered to power the Detroit Tigers past the Chicago White Sox 3-1. Fielder's 432-(equals)foot shot to right-center field in the third inning snapped a 1-1 tie. In the National League: __Philadelphia cooled off Washington 9-3, ending the Nationals' four-game win streak. Cole Hamels held the Nats to one run on five hits over his eight innings. Hunter Pence hit a pair of two-run home runs. Making matters worse for the Nats was the loss of right fielder Jayson Werth, who suffered a broken wrist trying to make a sliding catch. He'll see a specialist Monday to evaluate the injury. — Giancarlo Stanton drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning and the Miami Marlins beat the San Diego Padres 6-3 for their season-best sixth straight victory. Ricky Nolasco improved to 4-0 for the Fish. — Pinch-hitter Hector Sanchez singled over a five-man infield with the bases loaded in the 11th inning, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers to take the three-game series. — Freddie Freeman belted a three-run homer and starter Brandon Beachy worked seven effective innings to help Atlanta complete a three-game sweep in Colorado with a 7-2 win over the Rockies. NFL-SEAU DEATH Second thoughts SAN DIEGO (AP) — San Diego Chargers chaplain Shawn Mitchell says Junior Seau's (SAY'-owz) family is revisiting its decision to donate the former NFL linebacker's brain for research into football-related injuries. Mitchell says the family, which is of Samoan descent, is consulting with a group of elders on a number of matters. He says it doesn't necessarily mean that the family won't donate Seau's brain for research. The 43-year-old Seau committed suicide Wednesday at his home in suburban Oceanside. He played parts of 20 seasons in the NFL, including 13 with the Chargers. NFL-NEWS RG III to start...Dolphins' Wake extended UNDATED (AP) — Robert Griffin III already has the No. 1 quarterback job with the Washington Redskins. Coach Mike Shanahan says the Heisman Trophy winner from Baylor will work with the starters when the Redskins begin full offseason practices later this month. Griffin completed a three-day rookie camp Sunday, a little over a week after he was selected second overall by the Redskins in the NFL draft. In other NFL news: — The Miami Dolphins have extended linebacker Cameron Wake's contract through the 2016 season. Wake made the Pro Bowl in 2010, when he had 14 sacks, and he had 8½ sacks last year. He came to the Dolphins in 2009 from the Canadian Football League, where he was a two-time defensive player of the year. __ Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (RAWTH'-lihs-bur-gur) has graduated from Miami University in southwestern Ohio, about nine years after leaving for the NFL. The university says the 30-year-old football player received his bachelor's degree in education and joined nearly 600 students during Sunday's commencement. PGA-WELLS FARGO CHAMPIONSHIP Fowler breaks through CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Rickie Fowler is finally a winner in his 67th start as a pro on the PGA Tour. Fowler rolled in a four-foot birdie putt to win a three-way playoff with U.S. Open champion Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points in the Wells Fargo Championship. McIlroy's consolation prize is a return to the top of the golf rankings, reclaiming the No. 1 spot from Luke Donald. The 23-year-old Fowler won in his 67th PGA Tour start as a pro. The only other win as a pro for the 23-year-old Fowler came last year in South Korea. CHAMPIONS-INSPERITY CHAMPIONSHIP Funk edges Lehman in Texas THE WOODLANDS, Texas (AP) — Fred Funk birdied four of his last five holes en route to a bogey-free 5-under-par 67 and one-stroke victory over Tom Lehman (LAY'-muhn) at the Champions Tour event near Houston. His birdie putt on the final hole prevented a tie at the top of the leaderboard at the end of regulation. Lehman missed his birdie attempt on 18 and signed for a 68. Funk picks up his seventh victory on the 50-and-over tour and first since 2010. NASCAR-TALLADEGA With a little help from my friend TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — Penske Racing's Brad Keslowski drove to Victory Lane after a green-white-checkered finish in the Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway. Kesslowski used a huge push from runner-up Kyle Busch to pass leader Matt Kenseth after the final restart and went on to claim his second win of the year on the Sprint Cup circuit. Kenseth had to settle for third place. It was the first restrictor-plate race since the season-opening Daytona 500. HORSE RACING-KENTUCKY DERBY Derby winner heading to Charm City LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky Derby winner I'll Have Another is off to Maryland for the second leg of the Triple Crown, and the chestnut colt isn't wasting any time heading to Pimlico. Trainer Doug O'Neill says I'll Have Another will fly from Louisville to Baltimore on Monday. That will make him the earliest arriving Derby winner since Monarchos showed up at Pimlico four days after his 2001 win. O'Neill says he wants to get the colt settled in at his new home well ahead of the May 19 Preakness. TENNIS-MADRID Plenty of star power in Madrid MADRID (AP) — Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka (ah-zah-REN'-kuh) beat Svetlana Kuznetsova (svet-LAH'-nah kooz-NET'-so-vah) of Russia 7-6, 6-4 in a tough first-round match on the new blue clay court at the Madrid Open. The Australian Open champion from Belarus already has four titles to her credit this year. Other Sunday winners on the women's side include No. 2 Maria Sharapova, fourth-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska (ahg-nee-ESH'-kuh rahd-VAHN'-skuh) and No. 6 seed Caroline Wozniacki (wohz-nee-AK'-ee).
