Arena League Commissioner Kurz signs extension

CHICAGO (AP) — Arena Football League Commissioner Jerry Kurz has received a five-year contract extension.

The league's Board of Directors unanimously voted the extension Monday. Kurz has been the league's commissioner since 2010. He has been involved with the sport for 26 years.

Before taking the commissioner's job, he was president of af2, Arena Football's minor league. He also served as AFL vice president of international development from 1987-2008, introducing countries such as Spain and Germany to the game.

The league has 17 franchises this season.
