NEW YORK (AP) — Former New York Liberty star Teresa Weatherspoon will return to Madison Square Garden as coach of Louisiana Tech to play Rutgers in the seventh annual Maggie Dixon Classic on Dec. 9. Weatherspoon played for the Liberty from 1997-2003.

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — The time for Southern Mississippi's baseball game today against the East Carolina Pirates has been changed to 10 a.m. USM officials say the game was originally scheduled for 2 p.m., but rain is expected in the Hattiesburg area in the afternoon.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Texas-Pan American took a seven-stroke lead yesterday in the first round of the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championship, while Bethune-Cookman opened a 19-shot advantage in the women's competition. Santiago Bueno, from Mexico, led Texas-Pan American with an even-par 72 in windy conditions on PGA Golf Club's Wanamaker Course. The Broncs had a 6-over 294 total. Alabama State was second, followed by Tennessee State at 302.

MIAMI (AP) — A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that Miami's LeBron James will be announced today as the NBA's MVP. James is expected to be presented with the trophy tomorrow by Commissioner David Stern before Miami hosts Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
