Kings dominate opener of West final

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — The Phoenix Coyotes got away with their counterpunching style in the first two rounds of the playoffs.

Keep it up against the Los Angeles Kings and they could be headed toward a quick knockout.

More skilled and equally tenacious as Phoenix, the Kings rolled over the Coyotes 4-2 in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals Sunday night.

Los Angeles outshot Phoenix 17-4 in the first period and didn't let up, snatching the home-ice advantage with a dominating performance.

The Kings' top line of Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams gave the Coyotes fits all night, combining for two goals, two assists and constant pressure.

Phoenix has a day to figure out a way to stop the Kings with Game 2 Tuesday night in the desert.
