Mississippi State edges LSU 3-2 in SEC tournamentHOOVER, Ala. (AP) — Demarcus Henderson drove in Mitch Slauter with a sixth-inning single to give Mississippi State a 3-2 victory over top-seeded LSU on Wednesday in the second round of the Southeastern Conference baseball tournament. Bulldogs starter Chris Stratton (11-1) struck out eight and allowed five hits over six innings. Jonathan Holder struck out two in the ninth to post his eighth save. LSU (42-15) used seven pitchers, with none lasting more than 2-2/3 innings. Joe Broussard (4-1), who gave up the game-winning hit to Henderson, took the loss. Adam Frazier and Brent Brownlee each had RBI singles in the third to give the Bulldogs (36-21) a 2-0 lead. The Tigers tied the game in the fifth when Mason Katz lined a two-out, 3-2 pitch into left field, scoring JaCoby Jones and Austin Nola. LSU will play Mississippi on Thursday in an elimination game, while MSU will take on Kentucky. |
