BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Roger Chapman has the early lead at the Senior PGA Championship after shooting shot a 3-under 68.

With a number of golfers still on the course Thursday, Chapman leads John Cook by a stroke. Steve Pate, J.L. Lewis, Jeff Sluman, Jay Haas and David Frost all shot 70.

Chapman tied for 16th at this month's Mallorca Open, part of the European Senior Tour. He tied for 27th at last year's Senior PGA, his best showing in the three years he's played the event previously.

As expected, scores weren't too low at the outset on the course at Harbor Shores. As of late afternoon, the first-round average was 75.56.
