Paul Maholm gave up one run on eight hits in six innings. The Braves, third in the NL East, fell 6 games behind first-place Washington.

PEARL, Miss. (AP) — Ben Sheets gave up four runs in five innings for the Double-A Mississippi Braves in his first professional appearance in nearly two years. The veteran right-hander gave up two runs in both the first and second innings, but settled down after that, retiring 10 in a row to end his outing.

Woods is coming off a win at the AT&T National last week and traveled 250 miles for his debut Thursday in the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia.

ATLANTA (AP) — Peter Kirui of Kenya has won the 43rd annual Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. Kirui's unofficial time of 27 minutes, 36 seconds ties the fourth-fastest time in race history. It's the first Peachtree victory for the 24-year-old.
