Ex-NFL player Naposki gets life in Calif. murderSANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A former NFL linebacker has been sentenced in California to life in prison without possibility of parole for murdering his lover's wealthy live-in boyfriend nearly two decades ago. An Orange County Superior Court judge sentenced Eric Andrew Naposki on Friday. A jury convicted him last year of first-degree murder. Prosecutors say Naposki shot 55-year-old William Francis McLaughlin at the suggestion of his lover, Nanette Ann Packard, who was also McLaughlin's live-in girlfriend. Naposki was working as a nightclub bouncer at the time of the 1994 murder. He was a former linebacker for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. The 46-year-old Packard was convicted in January and also sentenced to life in prison without parole. Prosecutors say Packard stood to collect $1 million in life insurance if McLaughlin died. |
