Big matchups on college football schedule today
UNDATED (AP) — There are plenty of high-power matchups on today's college football schedule, including two SEC matchups of top 10 teams. Fourth-ranked LSU is on the road this afternoon at No. 10 Florida and No. 5 Georgia plays at sixth-ranked South Carolina this evening.
There are three more meetings involving AP poll members this evening, with No. 2 Oregon hosting 23rd-ranked Washington, No. 8 West Virginia at 11th-ranked Texas and 12th-ranked Ohio State home to No. 21 Nebraska.
Top-ranked Alabama is enjoying a bye week.
Division Series openers on tap
UNDATED (AP) — Baseball's postseason continues today with a pair of Division Series openers.
Oakland at Detroit is first up, with the Tigers sending 17-8 Justin Verlander to the mound to face Jerrod Parker, who was 13-8.
Detroit won four of seven versus the A's during the regular season.
The best-of-five NLDS featuring the Giants and Reds gets going this evening in San Francisco. Matt Cain gets the ball for the home team. He went 16-5 during the regular season. Cincinnati counters with 19-9 Johnny Cueto (KWAY'-toh).
The Reds won the season series with the Giants 4-3.
PGA event in Las Vegas has tie at the top
LAS VEGAS (AP) — There's a tie for the lead heading into the third round of the PGA Tour event in Las Vegas.
Jonas Blixt fired his second consecutive 7-under 64 to pull even with Brendon de Jonge, who followed a 62 with a 66 on Friday. Blixt would have had the outright lead if he hadn't double-bogeyed the par-3 17th.
Ryan Moore is one stroke back and two ahead of Tim Herron and Daniel Summerhays.
Cochran begins second round on top
CARY, N.C. (AP) — Russ Cochran was the leader when the second round of the Champions Tour event in Cary, North Carolina, began today.
Cochran opened with a 6-under-par 66 yesterday, giving him a one-shot edge over Fred Funk and four others.
A need for speed
TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) — NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup championship is in Alabama for some racing on the superspeedway at Talladega.
They'll hold pole qualifying today for Sunday afternoon's run on the high-banked oval.
Brad Keselowski wrested the points lead from Jimmie Johnson with last week's victory at Dover that marked his fifth checkered flag of the year. The Penske Racing driver leads the five-time series champion by five points with seven races left.

Azarenka to meet Sharapova in final
BEIJING (AP) — Top-ranked Victoria Azarenka (ah-zah-REN'-kuh) has advanced to the final in the China Open in Beijing, where she will meet Maria Sharapova.
Azarenka beat ninth-seeded Marion Bartoli today, 6-4, 6-2. Sharapova earlier cruised to victory over seventh-seed Li Na of China.
Jo-Wilfriend Tsonga of France advanced to the men's final when Feliciano Lopez retired with a wrist injury.
