TROY, Ala. (AP) — Greg Gantt scored 26 points and Florida Atlantic snapped a three-game losing streak with a 61-54 Sun Belt Conference win over Troy on Thursday night. Gantt was 7-of-18 shooting and 10-of-13 from the foul line. The senior entered Thursday eighth nationally with 21.2 points per game, and has now scored 20 or more in four straight and in eight of his past nine.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama center Barrett Jones is still not practicing while recuperating from a sprained foot. Jones wore a black, non-contact jersey during the Crimson Tide's practice indoors on Thursday ahead of the BCS championship game against Notre Dame. The Tide returned a day earlier from the Christmas break.
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Andre Stringer of LSU and back-to-back 20-plus performances by Whitney Bibbins of Tulane earned the pair Louisiana Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honors. Stringer had 19 points in a road win at UC Irvine and then had 20 points with six treys in the Tigers game at Marquette. Bibbins had a career-high 25 points against Louisiana-Lafayette.
