NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Roger Mason scored 15 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter to rally the New Orleans Hornets to an 88-79 victory over the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night. Greivis Vasquez and Jason Smith each scored 17 points for the Hornets, who have won three in a row for the first time this season.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Marshall Henderson scored a career-high 32 points Wednesday night as Mississippi defeated Tennessee 92-74 in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams, giving the Rebels their first road victory over the Volunteers in 22 years. Mississippi had lost 11 straight times to Tennessee in Knoxville since a 93-88 triumph on Feb. 27, 1991.

STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Craig Sword scored 18 points, Roquez Johnson added 14 and Mississippi State edged South Carolina 56-54 Wednesday in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams. Mississippi State first-year coach Rick Ray won his SEC debut. Sword shot 6 of 11 from the field and had a dunk with 26 seconds left that provided enough separation for the victory.
