Vance named Hattiesburg High football coach


HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) — Tony Vance has been named head football coach at Hattiesburg High School.

The Hattiesburg American reports ( ) the hiring is pending approval by the Hattiesburg Public School Board, which will next meet on Feb. 5.

Vance comes to Hattiesburg from Charleston High, where he compiled a 60-10 record in five seasons.

Athletic director Cheyenne Trussell said Tuesday that Vance is expected to begin work at Hattiesburg on Feb. 11.

Vance led Charleston to the Class 3A State Championship in 2011 and a North State Championship last season.

Under Vance, Charleston averaged 42 points per game over the past two seasons.
