STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) — Kenny Boynton and Erik Murphy each scored 18 points as No. 8 Florida cruised to an 82-47 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday night. The Gators have now won eight straight and were never challenged, bolting a big lead early.
UNDATED (AP) — Dwayne Davis and Jerrold Brooks scored 11 points each as Southern Mississippi won its ninth in a row, beating Tulsa 62-59 on Saturday. Christian Williams scored 15 points for Jackson State in a 60-57 victory over Mississippi Valley State. LeAntwan Luckett scored 27 points as Alcorn State beat Southern University 61-57 in SWAC play.
OXFORD, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi has agreed to pay former coach Houston Nutt a lump sum of $4.3 million to complete his contract buyout. Nutt was fired after the 2011 season with about $6 million left on his contract. Ole Miss athletic director Ross Bjork said Saturday that the one-time payment would save the athletic department about $550,000.
