Stephens of US splits sets, rain delay at Fed Cup

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Rain has interrupted the opening match between the United States and Sweden in the World Group playoff on Saturday.

Sloane Stephens of the U.S. rallied to win the second set 6-4 after losing the first set 6-4 to Sofia Arvidsson at the Delray Beach Tennis Center.

The players left the court for a heat break after the second set. It began to rain before they returned to the court to play the third.

Top-ranked Serena Williams and Johanna Larsson of Sweden are scheduled to play the second match of the day.
