ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) — Authorities say the placekicker for the Mississippi Valley State football team was killed in an accident near Itta Bena. Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Ben Williams says Kevin Monzon of Crystal Springs, died after the vehicle he was driving ran off U.S. Highway 82 just east of Itta Bena and rolled over Thursday night.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected Mississippi State cornerback Johnthan Banks in the second round of the NFL draft. The Bucs did not have a pick in the first round after trading the 13th overall pick to the New York Jets in exchange for three-time All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) — The Detroit Lions have selected Mississippi State cornerback Darius Slay in the second round of the NFL draft. Detroit drafted Slay 36th overall yesterday, a day after taking BYU defensive end Ziggy Ansah with the No. 5 pick. Slay had five interceptions last season and returned one for a touchdown.
