SAN DIEGO (AP) — Edinson Volquez struck out a season-high nine in seven innings as he rebounded from the worst start of his career and led the San Diego Padres to a 5-3 victory over the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves on Wednesday and a three-game sweep. Chris Denorfia hit a two-run homer for the Padres, who've won six of eight.

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff is not ruling out the possibility of adding another free agent even though he likes what he has seen of his team through offseason workouts. With offseason training activities ending Friday and a mandatory minicamp coming next week, Dimitroff says the Falcons are "in a really good place right now."

ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Dream will be without leading rebounder Sancho Lyttle for six games while the forward plays for Spain's national team. Lyttle is averaging 15.4 points and nine rebounds for Atlanta, which is 4-1 and tied for the Eastern Conference lead with Chicago.

SWEDESBORO, N.J. (AP) — NASCAR driver Jason Leffler died after an accident Wednesday night in a heat race at a dirt car event at Bridgeport Speedway. The 37-year-old Leffler, a two-time winner on the NASCAR Nationwide Series who had the nickname "LefTurn" above the driver's side window on his race cars, was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m.
