MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Alabama State University says the NCAA has cleared the school's athletic programs to participate in postseason play. The university says in a statement release that acting athletic director Melvin Hines was notified Friday that the NCAA had finished its evaluation. The school had submitted data and information to the NCAA after the announcement of penalties related to APR scores.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Jack "Jocko" Gotta, the former Canadian Football League player, coach and general manager who coached teams to Grey Cup and World Football League titles, died Saturday. He was 83. In 1974, he coached the Birmingham Americans to the first and only World Football League title.

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) — Rain Saturday night forced NASCAR officials to postpone the Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway until Sunday. The 400-mile event was rescheduled for Sunday at noon. Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start on the pole in a Chevy alongside Carl Edwards' Ford.

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) — The only thing threatening to keep Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari from driving the fast lane before Saturday night's NASCAR race was rain.Initially slated to ride shotgun as the honorary pace car driver for the 400-mile Sprint Cup Series race at Kentucky Speedway, Calipari was asked to drive the Ford Fusion leading the 43-car field to the green flag.
