UNDATED (AP) — The New York Yankees clobbered the Red Sox 10-3 in Boston to trim the Bosox's lead in the AL East to one game over Tampa Bay. Alfonso Soriano went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer and four RBIs, giving him five homers and 18 ribbies in his last four games. The Rays beat the Blue Jays 5-4 on Yunel Escobar's walkoff triple in the bottom of the ninth.

UNDATED (AP) — The Kansas City Royals took a pair in Detroit to pull within 6 ½ games of the AL Central-leading Tigers. Eric Hosmer homered in both games as the Royals won 2-1 and 3-0. Danny Duffy tossed one-hit ball over six shutout innings in Game 1 before James Shields held the Tigers to three hits in seven innings of the nightcap.

UNDATED (AP) — Just a half-game separates first-place Texas from No. 2 Oakland in the AL West following the Rangers' 3-1 loss to Seattle and the Athletics' 3-2 triumph against Cleveland. Yoenis Cespedes (yoh-EH'-nehs SEHS'-peh-dehs) hit an early two-run homer and Eric Sogard doubled home the tiebreaking run in the seventh to lead the A's past the Indians. Kyle Seager was mired in a career-worst 0-for-21 slump before producing a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning of the Mariners' victory in Texas.

UNDATED (AP) — Pittsburgh expanded its lead in the NL Central to three games over St. Louis by downing the Diamondbacks 6-2. Jose Tabata (TAB'-ah-tah) hit a two-run homer and Pedro Alvarez had two RBIs to back Gerrit Cole, who gave up two runs in six frames. The Cubs shut out the Cardinals 7-0 as Jake Arrieta held the Redbirds to two hits in seven innings.

UNDATED (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers improved to 41-8 in their last 49 games while stretching their lead in the National League West to 8 ½ games over Arizona. Zack Greinke (GREHN'-kee) worked seven innings and Hanley Ramirez belted a two-run homer as the Dodgers blanked Philadelphia 4-0. It was the Phillies' first game since Ryan Sandberg took over for manager Charlie Manuel, who was fired on Friday.
