UNDATED (AP) — The Cards have taken a two game lead over the Pirates in the National League Central division race. St. Louis beat the Rockies last night 4-3 while the Pirates were shot down by San Diego, 3-2. The Reds are just 2 ½ games back of the Cardinals.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Andy Reid returns to Philadelphia tonight as coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. The 14-year coach of the Eagles was fired at the end of last season after going 4-12. The Chiefs are 2-0 and the Eagles 1-1.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — There is a Top-25 game this evening as Clemson faces North Carolina State in Raleigh, N.C. The visiting Tigers are ranked No. 3 in The Associated Press poll and are unbeaten after two games, as is the Wolfpack of N.C. State.
ATLANTA (AP) — The FedEx Cup competition comes to a close this weekend with the Tour Championship in Atlanta. The $10 million top prize is still up for grabs for any number of players. A year ago Brandt Snedeker won the event and the FedEx Cup. He earned $11.44 million, receiving $1.44 for the tournament victory and $10 million for the FedEx Cup title.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Former heavyweight champ Ken Norton is dead. The former sparring partner for Muhammad Ali was 70. Norton and Ali teamed up for three terrific fights, with Ali winning twice. Norton was also involved in a classic 15-rounder with Larry Holmes.
