My dad, lives in Cullman County, Cullman, Alabama, in a small rural area. Where the string of recent tornadoes has ripped through. He says there is devastation everywhere. There is no power and he was told power might come back on as early as Friday, May 6th, but there is no guarantee. He had to throw out all of his perishable food today due to having no refridgeration. He thinks the food in his freezer might last until Tuesday, May 3rd. He says there is a curfew in effect that lasts from dusk till dawn, if anyone is caught out after curfew without a permit, they would be taken to jail. He also said that gas is being rationed as well as groceries that are still available to the public. He has 100 dollars to last him until everything is restored. When I asked him about the Red Cross, He said that the Red Cross is only gone to the bigger cities. All help has gone to the bigger cities and that nobody has come to help the smaller communities like his. They have NO HELP. He said that they can't cook anything because they don't have any power and that right now they are living off of canned goods. He was lucky, the devastation missed his home, so he does have a roof over his head. His barn, shed and chicken house, however, were not so lucky. He has to keep his front door as well as all the windows to his home, open due to the extreme heat. There is no air conditioning or fans to cool the breeze, only heat and humidity. I have several pictures of the devastation on his property as well as videos of the devastation in Cullman on my facebook page, but I don't know how to get them from there to here. I wish I knew how though because pictures are so much better than my descriptions. Why isn't anybody helping the people in the smaller communities? Where's the "disaster relief" for them? I want to help him but I don't know how. I don't know where to tell him to go to get help unless he travels to a bigger city and unfortunately, even if he could, THERE IS NO GAS.
No help for small towns in AL
