Candidates Gear Up For Runoff Election

A runoff election Tuesday will decide who will represent a part of Montgomery in the Alabama House of Representatives.
Â
Both candidates have been making the final push to get voters out to the polls.Â
Â
The door to Dimitri Polizos’ restaurant is closed. That’s because he’s been making phone calls all day.
Â
Charlotte Meadows has been hitting the streets, going door to door to get out the vote. Meadows says finishing behind Polizos in the primary has helped her campaigning.
Â
“Well what that really did was give us a goal we have to reach for. So I wouldn’t say that it’s harder, it just tells us how we have to work and where we need to get to,” said Meadows.Â
Â
Polizos says it’s been a tough campaign  with both a restaurant to run and the possibility of running again in the regular 2014 election if he wins Tuesday. He says he’s ready to take a step back from the restaurant business to focus on the office.
Â
“My sister’s going to step up. She’s already volunteered to do that. And take me out of the restaurant more and put me downtown more. Prepare to get started. One of the things I did before I got started in this race is I asked if my employees would step up,” said Polizos.Â
Â
Meadows says that she’s ready to step up as well if she wins on election night. She’s noticed voters still care about the same issues that they did for the primary 6 weeks ago.
Â
“We’re seeing the same issues, meeting a lot of the same people. A lot of them are changing their votes because they’re seeing what we’re doing and they see our work ethic. And they see that I’m the best prepared for this job.”
Â
Both Polizos and Meadows are Republicans. There are no Democrats in the race.
Â
The seat became vacant when State Representative Jay Love resigned earlier this year. The polls open at 7 o’clock Tuesday morning and close at 7 oc’lock Tuesday night.Â
