The results are in for the special election for the House District 31 seat. Two candidates will be heading to a run-off–  Mike Holmes and Jimmy Collier.

Mike Holmes had 41 percent of the votes, followed by Jimmy Collier with 29 percent, then Frank Bertarelli with 19 percent and michael griggs with 10 percent.
Officials say it was only about an 11 percent voter turnout. But candidates are proud of what they accomplished.
Despite a pretty low turnout in Elmore and Coosa counties, the candidates say they are happy with the way things turned out. But the work is not over.

“We”ll have to get prepared for the runoff starting tomorrow morning. So we will do more of the same things we’ve been doing. We’re a grassroots organization. We don’t have a lot of money, got to see our ground game, see the voters individually, do retail politics,” said Holmes.

“Out of four people, this is what you shoot for, got to be in the top two. Feel like I’ve got the support coming along and adding to it. I’m excited about it,” said Collier.

That runoff is set for Tuesday, January 28th.
