Rainy Saturday For Crunch Time Holiday Shopping

In the last few days of Christmas shopping, the weather threatened to put a damper on holiday sales.

Shopper Trak, a provider of shopper analytics, said this past Saturday was anticipated to be the fifth largest day for holiday sales. Many shoppers at East Chase said they expected it to be a slow day because of the weather, but instead there was a steady stream of cars. Other retailers saw a drop in customers.

But since there was one less weekend for holiday shopping this year in between Thanksgiving and Christmas, some retailers saw the slower shopping day as a way to get caught up with online orders.

Katie Lewis, a worker At Embellish said, “We went from Black Friday to wham you have just got to be ready to just get that stuff out there, and I know inventory you are just putting that stuff out as quickly as you’re getting it in.”

Shopper Trak also reported that holiday sales for the first week in December were down about 3 percent compared to the same time last year.
