Cleanup Still Underway After Christmas Day Tornadoes

It’s been almost one year since tornadoes ripped through Alabama on Christmas Day. In Pike County things are still not back to normal..where 2 tornadoes damaged or destroyed more than 50 homes.Â

A committee for unmet needs out of Brundidge is still accepting donations.Â
They aim to fill the financial gap left after federal, state and insurance assistance. The committee chair says after a year, the amount of donations has drastically slowed but they are still trying to come up with funds to help provide a woman with a mobile home. Lawrence Bowden said, “Assistance delayed is assistance denied. So if you don’t get it within a reasonable amount of time, then it really doesn’t, I guess you’d be glad to get it but it doesn’t fulfill that immediate need that you’ve got to have to get your life back in order.”Â

Donations can be sent to the Brundidge United Methodist Church. Mail and mark it for disaster relief: 140 North Main Street, Brundidge, AL 36010
