Shoppers Swarm For After Christmas Sales

Christmas may be over, but Businesses are offering lots of deals to try and lure shoppers out of the comfort of their homes today.

Sales have been down across the country this year, but are people in our area interested in more holiday specials?

Shoppers packed out Eastdale Mall, hoping to cash in on special sales and find what they didn’t get for Christmas.

One shopper we talked to says she spent more money this year than in years past.

“I did more shopping. The economy has stabilized a little bit. So we were able to do a little bit and today you’ve got a lot of bargains in the mall,” said Sarah Rogers.

And some retailers say they were caught a little off guard with just how many people came through their doors.

“It’s been busier than I expected, so we weren’t quite as prepared staffing-wise as I should have been but it’s still been good,” said Allison Walls, Best Buy Mobile general manager.

“Actually it’s more than usual. This morning we had an awesome turnout for the new shoe releases that the different stores had so we had a great turnout for that. So now we have a mall full of people who are just shopping and having a great time,” said JB Robinson store manager Sandra House.

And for some stores like Charlotte Russe, today caps off a solid holiday season… and year of big sales.

“We’ve been pretty awesome. We’ve actually been the opposite. We’ve been up in sales and traffic and everything. So we’ve been doing pretty good,” said Santina Golson, store manager for Charlotte Russe.

“I tell you Christmas eve was a record breaking day for all of the stores I do believe. I know for our store all the customers came out and supported us. And for that we’re very very appreciative,” said House.

Days like today are big money for retailers. The national retail federation says that most stores make 20% of their annual sales during the holidays.
