Progress Made in Pike County after Storm
Winter Storm 2014 left Pike County crippled.Â
Â
Roads in the county did not officially reopen till 4 this afternoon, four days after the start of the sleet and snow. State and local resources worked diligently to clear the roads, but a thick sheet of ice made travel conditions some of the worst in the state.Â
Â
Troy city leaders will meet Tuesday to discuss how the winter mess was handled and what can be done next time.
Â
Troy’s E-911 received 724 calls, majority due to the weather. But even with that number of calls there were no major wrecks or injuries. City leaders say they were extremely lucky.Â
Â
Troy Mayor Jason Reeves said, “From the top to the bottom our people performed great in a very difficult circumstance…it was just a team, so many people helped. And we never would have made it through without everyone pulling together.”
Â
Troy Police, Pike County Sheriff’s Office, and Brundidge Police all said they were extremely fortunate that there’s no damage to their cars or officers.Â
