Whistleblower Lesa Keith Running for Montgomery Co. School Board

The woman who exposed one of the biggest scandals in Montgomery Public Schools’ history is announcing her candidacy to run for a seat on the school board.
Dr. Lesa Keith is running for the seat currently held by Heather Sellers.
You may know her as the whistle blower who exposed grade changing in Montgomery Public Schools. But Dr. Lesa Keith says she now wants to make key decisions for education. So, she’s running for a seat on the Montgomery County School Board, largely in part because others have asked her to.
“I’ve had so many people ask me, that have basically said Dr. Keith why don’t you run? You could make such a difference.”
And Keith says she plans on making a difference. She says her platform “say no to status quo” describes her perfectly and proudly takes credit for unveiling grade changing in MPS.
“I knew things were going on and I did step out and tape things and I don’t think we’d be where we are today without those tapes,” she says.
Grade changing hearings are still underway as school board members continue to face fall out from the scandal. Keith says if she gets the job, she’s ready to work with them, many of whom have been seated on the board for years.
“I’ve had people say they’re going to die when they hear that you’re running,” she says. “I know some of those people on the board. I’ve met them. They may have forgot that they met me but I don’t intend on being a problem.”
In fact, Keith says she intends on being a solution. A solution that she says Heather Sellers is not.
“I think at one time, Heather had her head in the game. But right now, she’s running for this or trying to get on County Commission and I don’t think either has happened. And I’m not looking for a career in politics.”
Keith says she wants to focus on ‘going back to the basics,’ by creating more vocational programs and enforcing discipline in schools.
Heather Sellers released a statement tonight regarding her school board seat;
“I will continue to work hard with the state department and the new superintendent, to continue the improvement of learning in the classroom and increase our graduation rate with a focus to help every school be effective and efficient. This has been, and will continue to be my focus—to move our system, and, most importantly, our children forward.”
The election for the district one school board seat is scheduled for June 3rd.
The deadline to qualify is this Friday.
