New Name For Troy Utilities Building

The Troy City Council renamed the utility complex in honor of the city’s former public works director of almost 20 years.

It’s now called the Grady Homer Reeves Utility Complex. Reeves was instrumental in leading Troy to break away from the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority. This allowed the city to independently supply utilities to residents. This move helped keep Troy’s rates some of the lowest in the Southeast.

Troy Council President John Witherington said, “He is one of the finest municipality employees we’ve had. He was involved in some very important decisions during his tenure as utilities superintendent that placed Troy in a very enviable position as far as our utility services and utility plant is considered. And it’s just something we just felt we wanted to do for him to say thank you for his efforts.”

The council unanimously passed the resolution to rename the building.
