Salty Foods Speed Up Aging in Overweight Teenagers
Eating lots of salty foods seems to speed up the aging process of cells in overweight and obese teenagers.
Researchers in Georgia found the protective ends on chromosomes that naturally get shorter with age were significantly shorter among overweight and obese teens who had a high-sodium diet.
Aging cells are linked to heart disease. Researchers say lowering sodium intake, may be an easier first step than losing weight for young people who want to lower their risk of heart disease.Â
