Hillshire Brands to Close Florence Plant

Hillshire Brands Co. officials say they plan to close the company’s Florence plant, which employs about 1,100 people.
The company said in a statement that the plant is set to close on Dec. 30.
The TimesDaily reports (http://bit.ly/PxGR7e) that the Florence plant includes cooking operations for breakfast sandwiches and breakfast sausages.
Tom Hayes, chief supply chain officer, said closing the Florence plant was a “very difficult” decision.
However, he said the company determined that it won’t meet efficiency or long-term profit expectations.
Company officials said in the statement that the firm will provide severance and outplacement assistance to employees consistent with its company policies.
