Exercise Helps Older People Avoid Disabilities

Two studies show people who exercise through their 50’s and 60’s live longer and avoid disabilities.

In one study, researchers tested grip strength, balance and how fast a person could rise from a chair.

Those who could not perform the tests, had a greater risk of dying sooner.

In the second study, researchers tracked people at high risk for developing knee osteoarthritis.

Those who exercised with light intensity reduced their risk and slowed the condition from progressing.
