Tuskegee Excited For New Shopping Center

The City of Tuskegee is getting ready to bring new development along the interstate.
It’s something that many residents are looking forward to as well.
After looking at developments like Eastchase in Montgomery and Tiger Town in Auburn, Tuskegee leaders thinks they have the right plan to help grow the city.Â
The plans are drawn up and the site has been picked.
Mayor Johnny Ford says that exit 38 is the perfect place to set up a new shopping area.
Some shops have even committed to the space already.
“We have a selected a nice Holiday Inn Express, a Zaxby’s, a service station probably a Shell, along with a Huddle House. And a facility for a Greyhound bus station terminal,” said Mayor Ford.Â
The project is being funded by the city and should cost somewhere between 10 and 15 million dollars. But it’s a project that many in town think will be worth it.Â
“I think it’ll be pretty good for the city. I am a firefighter and it would bring revenue. That would be good to help us get stuff, equipment, different things around here for the city,” said Ernest Wright.Â
“That would give al to more people jobs. That will bring the revenue back in. That would help out a lot,” said Patsy Roberts.Â
Mayor Ford expects to break ground this fall and have the shops ready by the spring.
Ford also plans to have several historic sites included in the area as well, recognizing the Tuskegee Airmen and the VA hospital there.
